What stood out to me from the start, was that the mood in this is quite different than what I've heard from Boulder Fields before.
Where those earlier works were quite melancholic in tone, this one is much more upbeat, almost happy. Yet the lyrics are still about change; often in a negative sense. This contrast is really appealing to me, as it leads to a feeling that bad things are not as painful as one imagined them to be. It's the same sensation you get when you tell an empathetic person with life experience your troubles.
On the musical side, this is contemporary Folk / Americana, with warm and comforting vocals, very gentle percussion, expertly played guitar (both acoustic and electric, if I'm not mistaken) and a bass tone that works perfectly. The production is a thing of beauty, never feeling overbearing. Every element is seperated cleanly and crystal clear. Also there are a few surprises happening in the background that I would not exactly expect from an album in this genre!
To summarize, this is beautiful, comforting music for me. It's gentle overall, energetic when it's necessary, and feels mature and honest in the best of ways.
